Today you worked independently on questions pertaining to the next reading in our book. This work will be completed in class today and tomorrow and turned in on Thursday at the beginning of the hour. You are to read until the end of chapter 2.
Here are the questions that should become TOMORROW NIGHT'S homework. (Again, this is what you are working on in class tomorrow and I will need to talk with student's individually about their OMAM papers.)
Question for Fahreneheit 451 (until the end of part two—my page 106)
- What questions does Guy ask the two houseguests?
- What attitudes do the women (Mrs. Bowles and Mrs. Phelps) seem to have about the war, and about death, and about their husbands?
- How do the women react when Guy suggests, “Let’s talk”?
- What just-slightly-different attitudes do Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles express about having and raising children?
- What do the women say about the presidential candidates Hoag and Noble?
- When Guy brings in the book of poems and identifies it as a book of poetry, who whispers “Montag” in his ear, and why?
- When Guy challenges Mrs. Bowles’s assertion that she hates poetry by asking her “Have you ever heard any?” what does Faber say to Guy through the Seashell Radio earpiece?
- What does Mrs. Phelps say about what she wants Guy to do, and why does she suggest this?
- What poem does Guy read to them?
- How does Mrs. Phelps respond to the poem?
- What does Faber tell Guy about the intellectual journey Guy is on, and what will one day happen and what Guy will be able to look back on and know?
- What does Faber advise Guy he should feel towards those women (Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles)?
- What does Faber tell Guy when Guy has said that he’d made the women unhappy and perhaps they were right and it would be best to just not face things and only have fun?
- What odd thing does Beatty say to greet Guy when Guy arrives at the firehouse?
- What does Guy obediently do when Beatty puts his hand out, palm up, for a gift? And what does Beatty do with the gift?
- What does Beatty tell Guy about a dream he’d supposedly had during a catnap he’d had an hour ago, and what does Faber tell Guy through the earpiece that Beatty is trying to do?
- What does Beatty claim about how his alleged dream had supposedly ended?
- What does Faber tell Guy to remember about Captain Beatty, and the majority?
- When Guy almost makes the mistake of answering Faber out loud, what saves him?
- On the fire truck or ‘Salamander’ what does Guy think about that he’d done back at his house a few hours earlier that he now regrets?
- When the Salamander halts, in front of whose house have they stopped?
