8. What is implied about the stable buck’s relationship to the other ranch-hands by Carlson’s comment and also by his not being there with them in the bunkhouse? What social factors are in conflict here?
- What does Carlson get Slim to promise, for Candy’s sake? What does Carlson then persuade Candy to let him do?
10. Why is it that Slim’s agreeing with Carlson that the old dog should be shot finally persuades Candy to let Carlson shoot the dog?
