Review for Part One Test and essay passback

Today we had a shortened hour.

With our time I gave you some tips and tricks to use to study for the test.
Then I gave your essays back.  When you began working independently I spoke to you about your essay if you wanted a conference.  I plan on showing you some good examples to follow.  Think about the grade you received as a starting grade and making changes in the next essay so your scores go up!

Finally, with time remaining, you worked on questions for the pages you read in Wonder: pgs 81-96.

Questions:

1. What does Via say about Daisy?
2. At the end of "Tour of the Galaxy" Via ends with a foreshadowing remark.  What is it?
3. Find 1 metaphor on page 82 and one on page 83.
4. Why didn't Via play with Lily after she met August?
5. Use http://www.freetranslation.com/ to translate the following phrases from Portuguese to English
• menina querida
• tu es meu tudo
6. Find the similes on pages 87 & 88.
7. Compare what is happening between Via and her friends and what happened Bryon and Mark in That Was Then, This Is Now.

I will give you time after the test tomorrow to work on the vocabulary and questions above.  (It is NOT homework).

I would like you to concentrate on studying for your test and writing a rough draft of the essay answer you need to provide in class tomorrow!
