Ch. 5-7 Review; reading ch. 8 & 9

Today we used this "highlights" review. I placed it on the overhead and in your groups you worked to fill in the blanks.

After that you were to read chapter 8 and part of chapter 9 (STOP at the break in the page that starts "Jem and I viewed Christmas...")

Today we went over the chapter 1 questions and I collected them.

  1. Web quest due on MONDAY!  NO exceptions!  No late assignments will be taken; no homework coupons accepted!  Print it out BEFORE you come to class!  If your printer isn't working, you should be here at 7:30 awaiting the LRC to open!!

To Kill A Mockingbird Web Quest

This web quest is due on MONDAY!  You must bring a copy of your answers to class on Monday.  If you fail to do so you will earn a 0 on the assignment.  No late work will be accepted.

After the reading you worked on the questions and vocabulary for the first chapter.

2.       What do we know about the Ewells?

7.       Explain the bet Dill made with Jem.


LOOKING AHEAD:

Thursday--Webquest in the computer lab.  The webquest will be due on Monday.  NO late papers will be accepted and no homework coupons can be used.


Friday--Correct and collect chapter 1 questions (see above).  This will be the last grade for you for the 4th quarter.  Make sure you have it completed!  FINISH STRONG!

TKAM anticipation guide / group work

Today we went over the anticipation guide and you were able to see how your classmates felt in regards to the same questions you personally answered.

Next some people shared their stories.

Finally, in groups, you were asked to answer 5 questions and have them ready for our next class meeting.  Then you read the novel and stopped at the paragraph that begins "The Radley Place jutted into a sharp curve beyond our house."

HOMEWORK:
Make sure your group is ready to present any answer from the question sheet
Finish the short assigned reading from the novel.

Today we finally finished "Of Mice and Men".

Article Presentations and Fahrenheit 451 movie

Today you worked with your reading groups and discussed your thoughts regarding last week's article and questions.  Then you chose a person from your group to present your findings and thoughts to the rest of the class.  I was very impressed with the majority of groups!  Nice work!

Then we continued watching Fahrenheit 451.

Fahrenheit 451 Final Test and Article Assignment

Today you took the final test for Fahrenheit 451.

After the test, you continued reading the article from yesterday.  You focused on the following 3 questions while reading:
  1. Do you agree that kids do not read the same way online as if they had a book?  Explain.
  2. How does online reading cause test scores to drop?  Explain.
  3. Does technology have a positive or negative impact on a student's literacy intelligence?  Why?
After reading the article, answer the following questions using evidence from the article to back up your thoughts.  Please parenthetically reference the article when using a direct quote or a paraphrase.

Today we reviewed for the test tomorrow that will be over Fahrenheit 451.  Expect 45-55 matching / multiple choice questions.  You will be filling in a scantron, so please bring in a pencil.

Paper due, turnitin.com demo, reading in F451

Today your paper was due today.  If you did not have your hard copy today in class, it is a half grade lower and will continue a half grade lower each day it is late.

Then I went through a Turnitin.com demo.  I went through how to submit.  I answered all questions. I asked students who were still confused to see me at lunch.  And, as always, please email me at home if you don't understand something.  I can walk you through it.

Then we continued reading F451.  We read until the part where Montag questions if there is anything he might be able to say to the millions of people watching the Mechanical Hound come after him, to help them understand what he did and why he did it.
